IB & OSSD Chinese Teacher (Course Developer)

Job description

NOIC Academy is located in the city of Markham, Ontario. Being a full-time, high end private boarding secondary school, it has offered the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) since 2004 with BSID 667013 as its school code. In March, 2015, it was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to become an IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Its school license code is 049719. NOIC ACADEMY is co-inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education and IBO.

Position Summary

The Teacher develops the Ontario LKBDU course within the IB structure. When the course development job is completed, the teacher will be prioritized in teaching this course on a remote basis. The Teacher also works closely with students and other academic staff in a diverse cultural setting to maintain a fruitful teaching and learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

As for the course development job (Remote basis):

1) creates and organizes the course outline using the NOIC course outline template, all teaching materials and resources, unit plans, lessons plans, assessments, and solutions or criteria of assessments on the teaching platform Canvas and the school management system (Onedrive).

2) Plan 12 weeks’ teaching, learning, and assessment materials

3) The live teaching time will be 36 hours in total

4) The guided students’ self-directed learning time will be at least 74 hours

5) Create two 1.5 hour long live-teaching PPTs per week and additional three 2-hour long PPTs that guide students’ self-directed learning in the week (five PPTs will add up to 9 hours teaching and learning each week, 12 weeks will make 108 hours)

6) The time for Six AOLs will add up to at least 9 hours. AOLs will be invigilated by TAs in our China office.

7) Prioritize using IB related materials (textbooks and resources) to cover OSSD requirements as well as IBDP requirements.

8) Begin with the current online OSSD courses and modify in line with the iOSSD curriculum mappings of relevant courses.

9) Use purchased or free resources, make sure copy rights are acknowledged (checking with the school librarian if necessary).

10) Works cooperatively with the online VP and the online administration team on a regular and ongoing basis to complete all tasks.

As for the teaching job (Remote basis):

1) The course will be taught twice a week and lasts for 12 weeks. The total teaching hour is 36 (excluding breaks).

2) It is fully online. The course schedule can be discussed with the teacher after the course is developed.

Requirements

  • Holder of Bachelor’s Degree with major in the subject of teaching
  • Extensive knowledge of the current OSSD grade 9-12 curriculum, and the assessment, evaluation and reporting expectations outlined in the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Growing Success document
  • Knowledge and experience with delivering experiential learning, including service and inquiry-based learning, IB knowledge or experience is an asset
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • High proficiency in applying technology to enhance the capacity of teaching and learning
  • Experience with ESL students is an asset
